I think I'm in a weird portal where I know so many people that have climbed El Cap that while I'm very proud of it, I also feel it's weird to write about it because in some ways its NBD to parts of my community. Clearly I need to get over that!
I entirely hear you Elizabeth! I'm a process gal too. Part of the struggle is that I think we are engrained to believe that if you just do the steps (process) the craft will follow. And I don't think that is wrong, but I don't think it's the whole picture. The tangible example I try and use relates to my climbing. If I just show up and put in the work, there's this assumption that I will get stronger and better. And while that's true, there's a limit. Focusing on the craft or technique matters a lot. I've been trying to think about how to frame that up in other parts of my life lately!
I was only acquainted with the term annus horribilis, so I was delighted to listen to your fantastic 2024 and hope 2025 and future years will surpass that high-water mark
I thoroughly enjoyed this edition, Cris. Go you! You raise such a great point, Cris, about miracle years. As someone on the other end of the journey, I like your concept of craft(ing) a wonderful year ahead. And I am here to tell you that these years do repeat over the decades. They are life's highs - there to get through the slump years. But I also believe that we need down years or consolidation years before a mega-miracle year, much as a baby sleeps before a growth spurt.
Karena - your example and mentorship have incredible. Thank you for being you! I love the framing that we need the consolidation years for the mega years. And as a mom whose kiddo is NOT sleeping, which I hope is because she's about to start walking - I HEAR YOU!
Another amazing work of words. Now, can you write about El Cap please. Oh, and send those Miracle Year vibes my wayyyyy💥. Keep crushing

Do it for the Midwesterners.
Fascinating Cris. I'm a process gal ALL THE WAY. I honestly struggle to understand the other two frameworks. Can't wait to learn from you ✨

Wishing you luck with the walking phase! They just keep moving faster and further and you find yourself chasing them 20 years later.
